About Two Tabby
I am a handweaver who maintains a weaving studio in Brainerd, Minnesota. I've been weaving for over 20 years, following in the footsteps of my great-grandmothers from Norway and England. My work focuses on functional and wearable art using natural fibers -- primarily table and kitchen linens, scarves, shawls and throws.
I believe that functional objects in our lives should also be beautiful -- and should be a joy to use and to wear. To that end, I find New Mexico endlessly inspiring with its natural vistas, incredible colors and layers of textures. It's my hope that you see that inspiration come through in my work. This evening shawl was inspired by Norway's new Oslo Opera House -- the nighttime dark blues of the ocean water reflecting on the soaring glass, and the streaks of silver starlight illuminating the building's metal framework. It is woven in merino wool and silk in a delicate, open lace weave pattern designed by a Norwegian immigrant to America in the 1930's. Photographs of this piece were published in "A Thread Through Time" (Brusic, 2015). |
